wen has been in the hair and beauty business for 31 years and has enjoyed every aspect of the industry. Her professionalism has evolved with many advanced training sessions in business and leadership skills. Gwen keeps up with the latest trends with advanced hair coloring and cutting classes.
For over 16 years Gwen has owned and managed First Impressions Hair and Skin while serving a full clientele. She has used the AVEDA product line for approximately 28 years and stands true to her product. She believes in giving back to the community through fund
Since 1994, when the doors opened at First Impressions, Jen has been welcoming clients with a smile. From the young age of 12, she has been helping with all salon duties. For the last 10 years, Jen has been creating custom looks for her extensive clientele, and most recently has been assisting in management and plays a significant role running the business.
Kara is a creative, fun loving stylist who takes pride in all aspects of her career. She knew from an early age that styling hair was her passion. You can see the evidence of this passion in old pictures where Kara is seen providing hair services to family, friends, and most notably her Barbie dolls.
Kara took her professional training at Accademia Dei Capelli and has been styling hair professionally since 2006. Kara loves learning and keeping herself current in the ever changing world of fashion. She takes pride in her work and in client satisfaction.
As our salon coordinator, Kayla is the voice you hear over the phone. She handles all the appointment bookings, phone calls, office work and keeping the salon stocked with all the products you love! Kayla has a passion for makeup artistry and has been doing applications since 2008; anything from a girls-night-out-smoky eye to bridal makeup to theatrical & Halloween makeup! Since working at First Impressions, Kayla’s passion for the beauty industry and hairstyling grew so much that she has applied and been accepted to hairstyling school in February 2012 at WTC! We look forward to watching her grow as a stylist in the new year!
Milli is one of our new apprentices here at First Impressions. She is currently attending her hairstyling course at WTC as she finished her grade 12 year. Her bubbly personality brings a positive and upbeat atmosphere to the salon. In the future she hopes to take further education in hair extensions and hair color.
After 5 years of dedication, Rachelle still has plenty of energy to burn.
Rachelle is a very energetic, hardworking individual that has a strong desire to help make her guests look good and feel great.
Rachelle took her Hairstyling course at Winnipeg Technical College and has attended various classes over the years to further her career. Rachelle especially loves doing dramatic changes and new trend coloring. She loves taking on new challenges. Rachelle is a very adventurous individual that loves camping and the great outdoors.

Katie has been interested in hairstyling since she was in grade school. Definitely the time that she spent with Gwen and Jen while growing up had a big influence on her, but her natural flair for hairstyling helped her make the final decision to pursue this career choice. Katie spent the first 16 years of her life in Winnipeg (St. Vital), then moved to Ontario with her parents, but returned to the “Peg” to attend hair school and start apprenticing at First Impressions.
Once a guest at First Impressions, Sandy was always showing her energetic and humorous qualities. She has had a passion for style and creative design from a young age. Inspired by her experiences at the salon, she decided to attend Hairstyling and Marketing at Capelli Academy.
After competing her training in 2008 she immediately became an apprentice at First Impressions where she started to build a tremendous clientele. This proves that all of her extra Aveda Advanced Academy training and flair for Hotheads extensions have paid off.
